The BNL Consulting Difference: Everything is personalized to YOU. I don't use a one-size-fits-all approach. Your preparation is tailored to your background, target firms, timeline, and areas needing improvement.
Case Interview Types We Cover
I prepare you for both major case interview formats, with emphasis on what you'll actually encounter:
- Candidate-Led Cases: The most common format at McKinsey, BCG, Bain, and Accenture Strategy. You drive the structure and analysis—this is where most candidates need the most preparation.
- Interviewer-Led Cases: More structured format where the interviewer guides you through specific questions. Common at some Big 4 firms and boutique consultancies.
My Three-Step Methodology
I use a proven, structured approach that builds your skills progressively and ensures you're interview-ready:
Foundations & Fundamentals
We start by introducing or reviewing the basics of case interviews. This includes understanding case structures, core frameworks, key business concepts, and the evaluation criteria interviewers use. Even experienced candidates benefit from revisiting fundamentals to ensure no gaps.
Component Breakdown & Drilling
I break down each component of the case interview—problem structuring, quantitative analysis, synthesis, creativity, and communication. We drill each part based on YOUR specific needs. If you struggle with market sizing, we focus there. If your issue structuring needs work, we concentrate on that. This personalized approach accelerates improvement.
Testing & Simulation
The final phase involves full mock case interviews that simulate real conditions. I provide holistic feedback on your performance, fine-tune your approach, and help you develop the confidence and polish needed to excel in actual interviews. We iterate until you're consistently performing at an interview-winning level.
Mastering Behavioral Interviews
While case interviews test your analytical abilities, behavioral interviews reveal who you are—and consulting firms care deeply about both.
What Firms Evaluate in Behavioral Interviews
Consulting firms use behavioral questions to assess several critical factors:
- Cultural Fit: Will you thrive in their environment and align with their values?
- Leadership Potential: Do you demonstrate the qualities needed to lead teams and drive impact?
- Resilience & Adversity: How have you handled challenges, setbacks, and difficult situations?
- Problem-Solving Track Record: Have you tackled complex problems before and what was the outcome?
- Collaboration & Teamwork: Can you work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders?
- Communication Skills: Can you articulate your experiences clearly and compellingly?
The Critical Difference: It's not enough to simply answer these questions. You must prove your capabilities with real anecdotes, stories, and concrete examples from your experience, and articulated in a crisp and succinct way that resonates with your interviewer.
The Power of Consistency & Personal Branding
Your behavioral interview responses must align with your overall narrative. The stories you tell should be consistent with:
- What's on your resume and cover letter
- How you presented yourself in networking conversations
- Your overall value proposition as a candidate
- The personal brand you've built throughout the recruitment process
I help you develop a cohesive narrative that presents a clear, consistent picture of who you are and what you bring to the table. This consistency builds credibility and makes you a memorable candidate.
My Approach to Behavioral Interview Prep
I use proven frameworks as a foundation, then go deeper:
- STAR Framework: Situation, Task, Action, Result—the classic structure for behavioral responses
- SAR Framework: Situation, Action, Result—a streamlined version for more concise responses
- Advanced Techniques: Beyond basic frameworks, we dive into storytelling, impact articulation, and how to make your experiences resonate with interviewers
My Coaching Process: What to Expect
I believe in a structured yet personalized approach that adapts to your unique situation, timeline, and development needs.
Free Consultation
We start with a complimentary 15-minute consultation to understand your goals, timeline, target firms, and current preparation status. This helps me develop an initial hypothesis and high-level game plan for your success.
Diagnostic Assessment
Your first full session is typically a diagnostic where I run case and behavioral interview simulations to see exactly where you are. This isn't about passing or failing—it's about identifying your strengths and pinpointing specific areas for improvement.
Personalized Development Plan
Based on your diagnostic results, I'll create a detailed plan with a recommended number of sessions to get you from where you are to interview-ready. The number of sessions depends entirely on your starting point, target firms, and interview timeline.
Targeted Coaching Sessions
We'll work through your development plan with focused sessions addressing your specific needs—whether that's framework application, quantitative analysis, structuring, behavioral storytelling, or full mock interviews.
Progress Tracking & Check-ins
Throughout the process, we'll have check-in sessions to track your progress, review how your independent practice and drilling is going, and adjust our approach as needed. Your development isn't linear, and neither is my coaching—we adapt to what you need.
The BNL Consulting Commitment: This is personalized to you, and you always have access to me for whatever you need. I'm invested in your success, and I'm here to support you throughout your entire interview journey.
Who This Coaching Is For
My consulting interview preparation serves three primary groups, with tailored approaches for each:
MBA Students
If you're pursuing consulting from an MBA program, you're competing against highly accomplished peers. Firms evaluate MBA candidates differently, looking for demonstrated leadership, strategic thinking, and the maturity to handle client relationships immediately. I help you position your pre-MBA experience effectively and develop the polished interview skills expected of MBA hires.
Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate recruiting has its own dynamics and expectations. Firms aren't looking for the same depth of experience—instead, they're assessing potential, analytical horsepower, and cultural fit. I help undergrads understand what firms really look for at this level and how to demonstrate those qualities effectively, even with limited work experience.
Career Switchers & Working Professionals
Transitioning to consulting from another industry presents unique challenges and opportunities. Firms evaluate experienced hires differently, focusing on specialized expertise and the ability to bring fresh perspectives. I help you translate your non-consulting experience into the language of consulting value, showing firms exactly how your background strengthens their capabilities.
Universal Truth Across All Groups: Regardless of your background, what matters most is leveraging your experience to demonstrate the consulting skills these firms are looking for. I help you make those connections clear and compelling.
All Backgrounds Welcome
I've worked with clients from diverse backgrounds—engineering, finance, healthcare, non-profit, government, startups, and more. Your unique background is an asset, not a liability. The key is knowing how to frame it effectively.
Investment & Pricing
Every client's situation is unique—your starting point, target firms, timeline, and development needs all influence the right coaching package for you.
Rather than offering one-size-fits-all pricing, I prefer to understand your specific situation first and then recommend a customized coaching plan that gives you the best chance of success.

How many sessions do I need?
It varies significantly based on your starting point and target firms. Complete beginners typically need 8-12 sessions, while candidates with some preparation may only need 4-6 sessions for fine-tuning. After our diagnostic assessment, I'll give you a specific recommendation based on where you are and where you need to be.
How far in advance should I start preparing?
Ideally, 6-8 weeks before your interviews. This gives us time for thorough preparation without rushing. That said, I've helped candidates prepare successfully in as little as 2-3 weeks when needed. The earlier you start, the more comprehensive your preparation can be.
Do you guarantee I'll get an offer?
No one can guarantee consulting offers—the competition is fierce and many factors are outside our control. However, I can guarantee you'll be significantly better prepared than the majority of your peers, giving you the best shot at standing out and landing the role.
Can you help me with networking and getting interviews?
Yes, to an extent. While my primary focus is interview preparation, I provide guidance on effective networking strategies and can share insights about the Toronto consulting market. My connections and insider knowledge of local firms can be valuable as you navigate the recruitment process.
I'm applying to multiple firms. Do I need different preparation for each?
The fundamentals of case interviewing are consistent across firms, but there are important nuances. McKinsey's cases differ from Bain's, which differ from Deloitte's approach. I tailor your preparation to address these differences and ensure you're ready for each firm's specific style and expectations.
What if I bomb the diagnostic assessment?
That's exactly what it's for! The diagnostic is a learning tool, not a test. Most candidates have significant room for improvement when we start—that's normal and expected. The diagnostic simply shows us where to focus our efforts. No judgment, just a clear path forward.
Do you offer group coaching or just one-on-one?
I primarily offer one-on-one coaching because personalization is what makes the difference. Your background, target firms, and development needs are unique, and cookie-cutter group programs simply can't provide the tailored support you need to stand out.
Can I practice cases with you outside of our scheduled sessions?
While our formal coaching happens in scheduled sessions, you always have access to me for questions, quick feedback, or guidance between sessions. If you're working through cases on your own and hit a roadblock, reach out—I'm here to help.
I'm not sure if consulting is right for me. Can you help me decide?
Absolutely. Part of our initial consultation and diagnostic process involves discussing whether consulting aligns with your goals, strengths, and career aspirations. I'd rather help you make an informed decision than prepare you for interviews for a career that isn't right for you.
What makes your coaching different from other interview prep services?
Three things: (1) I've recruited for and risen through the ranks at top consulting firms, so I know what it takes to land the interviews. (2) I've been both the candidate and the interviewer, giving me unique insight into what actually matters. (3) Everything is personalized to you—no generic frameworks or one-size-fits-all approaches. You get coaching tailored to your specific needs and target firms.
